Human-in-the-loop approval

Human-in-the-loop approval means a named person decides before a consequential change is made, with enough context to say no. In elan1 Govern, the autonomy check on the Right Path decides when a person must approve; the approver is never the asker, and the decision is recorded in the proof record.

In one sentence: A named person decides before a consequential change is made, with enough context to say no.

What it means in practice

An approval counts only when the approver can understand what will change and can refuse it. In elan1 the approver sees the change, the rule that held it and the consequence, and the approver is never the asker.

Not every change needs a person. Routine changes inside limits can run alone at the autonomy level your declaration sets; changes above a risk threshold wait for a named approver, and if nobody answers before the hold expires, expiry means refusal.
