Assurance level

An assurance level is a level of claim about the evidence elan1 produces, never a product tier. L1 Guarded means records are hash-chained, so changes are evident to you. L2 Attested adds signatures and outside timestamps an auditor can check offline. L3 Proven begins when an outside auditor accepts the evidence in writing.

In one sentence: A level of claim about the evidence (L1, L2, L3), never a product tier.

01In more detail

What it means in practice

Levels describe what you can rely on. They are not tiers you buy. L1 asks "Can I let this run?", L2 asks "Can I hand this over?", and L3 asks "Does this survive the vendor?"

Every claim on this site is tied to the level and the mode in which it is true. L1 Guarded and L2 Attested are available; L3 Proven begins on an outside auditor's written acceptance.
